Shot Selection Around the Green — Bump & Run vs. Pitch

Introduction

Having only one short game shot in your arsenal limits your scoring ability. When facing different turf conditions, green speeds, and pin locations, selecting the correct shot trajectory is critical.

1. Evaluating Your Short Game Options

  1. The Bump-and-Run (Low Risk): Kept low to the ground with minimal wrist action. Best used when you have plenty of green between you and the pin.

  2. The High Pitch (Medium Risk): Flown higher into the air with moderate spin. Best used when carrying over fringe or bunkers.

2. Trajectory Calibration Drill with eGolfRing

Mastering trajectory requires clear feedback on how different shots land and react on the green.

  1. Set Up Your eGolfRing Target: Place a 6-foot eGolfRing on your target landing zone.

  2. Hit 5 Bump-and-Run Shots: Use an 8-iron or 9-iron to land the ball inside the ring and watch it release toward the cup.

  3. Hit 5 Pitch Shots: Switch to your 56-degree wedge, landing the ball inside the exact same eGolfRing to observe how higher trajectory reduces rollout distance.
